Nord Stream 2. The impact on the transatlantic relationship and relations between EU members

The most active critics of the project in this region are the Baltic States and Poland, who do not bear direct economic losses from the launch of the new gas pipeline. As operators of the EU's "Eastern Policy" and active supporters of Ukraine's European integration, these countries are mainly guided by political considerations in assessing the Nord Stream-2 project.The Baltic states and Poland are afraid of the strengthening of Gazprom's market power in Europe after the launch of the gas pipeline, which, according to officials of these states, risks being politically instrumentalized by Moscow. The Russian leadership may match gas prices with other issues of interstate relations, the leaders of the CEE countries warn.Attempts by the countries of Central and Eastern Europe to torpedo the Nord Stream-2 are not supported in Western European capitals. The dilemma of the energy interests of the EU countries devalues the Brussels installations for reducing the share of Russian gas in the European market and replacing it with LNG, which traditionally loses price competition to pipeline supplies. The Russian-German gas pipeline project is becoming another element of the European "solidarity crisis".As a result, the implementation of the project due to deep disagreements in the near future will not become a consolidating factor in the process of forming effective transatlantic relations, as well as relations between EU members.6.
